Three days in Marrakech for a long weekend in 2026 is perfect for a first taste — provided you accept not doing everything. Here's the itinerary we send to friends when they land at our Semlalia studio: three balanced days between culture, gardens, and slow cafés.
The principle: one big thing per day
The classic mistake is trying to cram Medina + Majorelle + souks + hammam + Atlas trip into 72 hours. Result: exhaustion, traffic jams, blurry memories.
Our approach: one strong cultural experience per day, framed by cafés, slow walks, and a proper post-lunch nap. That's how locals live the city, and it's far more memorable.
Where to stay
The neighborhood defines your rhythm. Our biased take (we host in Semlalia):
- Medina: atmospheric but loud and tiring over 3 days.
- Guéliz: central, modern, but very touristy.
- Semlalia: our pick. Residential, quiet, 5 min from Guéliz, 15 min from the Medina. You come back to a real home each night.
Our Semlalia studio (48 m², terrace, fiber wifi) is 10% cheaper via direct booking than Airbnb.
Day 1 — Arrival & Guéliz: decompress
Day 1 is not for "doing Marrakech". It's for acclimatising.
Morning
- Land at Menara Airport. Petit taxi (300-500 DH for 20 min) or Careem if you prefer.
- Check in, shower, mint tea.
Lunch (Guéliz or Semlalia)
- Amal Center (Ibn Sina street) — women-run training restaurant, family Moroccan food. 60-80 DH.
- Café Clock Guéliz — soft first tagine, international vibe.
Afternoon
- Wander Guéliz: rue de la Liberté, rue Yougoslavie. Designer boutiques, modern Moroccan concept stores (Chabi Chic, Norya Ayron).
- Coffee at Bacha Coffee in Palais El Bahia (posh) or Kaowa (Sidi Ghanem, nomad vibe).
Evening
- Dinner at La Trattoria (gorgeous 1930s building) or Al Fassia (women-run Moroccan cuisine, book ahead).
- Early night. You'll need it for tomorrow.
Day 2 — The Medina: deep dive
This is THE day for the middle of the trip. Not day 1 (too disorienting after a flight), not day 3 (you'll be tired).
Morning (8am-12pm): a quieter Medina
- Arrive early at Jemaa el-Fna before the snake charmers set up. The light is beautiful, the terrace cafés (Café de France, Glacier) are open.
- Souks: enter via Souk Semmarine. Get lost for 2 hours max. Real shopping waits for the end of the trip.
- One monument: pick ONE from Bahia Palace (most impressive), Ben Youssef Medersa (Quranic school, calm), or Yves Saint Laurent Museum (modern, next to Majorelle).
Lunch — in the Medina
- Nomad (place Rahba Kedima) — modern Moroccan, terrace over the square.
- Café des Épices — simpler, same square, budget option.
Afternoon (2pm-5pm): mandatory nap Back to the apartment. Real nap. The Medina restarts in late afternoon anyway.
Late afternoon / evening
- Back to Jemaa el-Fna around 6pm. That's when the magic happens: storytellers, musicians, food stalls setting up. Stay for dinner at the stalls (stall #32 is our favourite, but all are safe).
- Terrace of a café (Argana) for the sunset over the square.
Return: taxi or 20 min walk back to Semlalia.
Day 3 — Gardens or Atlas: pick your calm
Two options depending on your energy.
Option A — Marrakech gardens (urban calm)
Morning
- Majorelle Garden + YSL Museum (arrive at 8am, before opening — the queue gets brutal). 2h30 on site. Buy combo ticket online.
- Berber Islamic art museum (inside Majorelle) — often skipped, but stunning.
Lunch
- Kaowa or Le Studio (next to Majorelle) — garden atmosphere, healthy.
Afternoon
- Menara Garden — bigger, less touristy. Picnic-friendly.
- OR Le Jardin Secret in the Medina — more intimate.
- OR nap at your apartment + apéritif on your terrace (that's what we usually do).
Evening
- Quiet dinner at La Table du Marché (Guéliz) or Amal (if not done on day 1).
Option B — Atlas day trip (nature)
Full day (7am-7pm)
- Half or full-day trip to the Atlas mountains (Ourika valley, waterfalls). Around 300-500 DH per person with driver.
- Our trusted driver can arrange this — message us and we'll connect you.
Evening
- Come back tired but happy. Light dinner at home or takeout.
What NOT to do in 3 days
- Essaouira day trip: minimum 3h drive round-trip, you'll burn out for nothing. Save it for a 5+ day trip.
- Last-minute hammam + massage: book 24h ahead. Our pick: Les Bains de Marrakech.
- Serious shopping on the last day: shopkeepers are lovely but negotiating when tired = losing.

FAQ
Is 3 days enough in Marrakech? Yes for a first visit, if you accept not seeing everything. Plan 5 days if you want to add Essaouira or a real Atlas trip.
How many tagines per day? One max. Alternate with fish, couscous, international food. Otherwise: guaranteed overdose.
Can you visit the Medina with kids? Yes, but motorbikes and crowds can stress little ones. Prefer early morning.
Do we need a guide? No for 3 days if you're independent. Useful in the Medina if you fear getting lost (about 400-600 DH for 3h).
